Wonderfruit Festival, Thailand’s pioneering sustainable, eco-friendly, cross-cultural live celebration of art, music and life, today announces further additions to the 2016 line up.
Thailand’s answer to Burning Man, Wonderfruit is like no other festival: incredible natural adventures, art installations from the world’s leading architects, sustainability, local and global community, Thai culture, health, wellness and an incredible music line up. Four days that perfectly combine the best elements of a festival and the ideal holiday destination.
Lianne La Havas, Shura, Stephan Bodzin, YokoO, Blitzen Trapper, Buke and Gase, and Eric Volta have all been added to the musical line up on the Living Stage, Farm Stage, Solar Stage, The Quarry and Forbidden Fruit – joining the previously announced Rudimental and Young Fathers and more. To celebrate one of Thailand’s greatest exports and mark the village’s annual harvest, the Farm Stage will be completely covered in un-milled rice from local farmers. After the event the rice will be milled ready for eating and donated back to the local community.
The Solar Stage at Wonderfruit is another awe inspiring aspect of the festival, designed by world renowned architect Gregg Fleishman. With acts including Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra and Eric Volta, the Solar Stage will host the only activity on the site during sunrise and sunset – creating an opportunity for Wonderers to come together at the beginning and end of each day.
Scratch Talks is returning to Wonderfruit this year with talks themed around the subject of ‘eco heroes’. Some of the most forward thinking minds and leaders of the environmental and ecological world will come together to discuss sustainability through talks, art installations and film. On the talks programme there will be Todd Lemons – CEO of EnVision Corporation – an incubator for sustainability technologies, Alan Laubsch – discussing sustainable finance from the Natural Capital Blockchain Revolution and Dr. Andy Cornish – shark expert from the World Wildlife Fund.
Tom Potisit and emerging artist Jitjer, who will create a roving installation titled ‘Little Monsters’, out of the trash collected from the ocean by Trash Hero in Thailand. Trash Hero will also be giving a talk around the interdependence between man and ocean.
Wonderfruit 2016 will host the world premiere of Plastic Oceans film. This will be the first time it is screened before it is released to the public in January 2017.
In July Wonderfruit made the announcement that Scratch First, the organisers behind Wonderfruit, formally pledge to offset Wonderfruit’s carbon footprint for 2016 by investing in the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve. The Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve is the world’s largest initiative to protect and preserve one of the most highly endangered ecosystems in the world. It aims to reduce Indonesia’s greenhouse gas emissions and protect the endangered Bornean Orangutan by preserving 64,977 hectares of tropical peat swamp forest.
Wonderfruit’s Farm to Feasts journey begins at Wonderfruit’s on-site farm, at the centre of the festival and surrounding the Farm Stage. This is where Wonderers can experience traditional practices in farming, get involved in workshops and activities like honey-tasting and scarecrow-making, and sample organic delicacies from local farmers. World-class chefs such as Paolo Vitaletti and Jarrett Wrisley will be cooking special meals for the Wonder Feasts, a communal outdoor dining experience hosted inside a structure known as the Theatre of Feasts.
Wonderfruit’s wellness programme is diverse with the chance to learn the basics of Muay Thai with legendary championship boxer, Buakaw, as well as the opportunity to relax and recharge through yoga with Ashtanga master Danny Paradise and Hatha yoga master Anastasis. Other aspects of the wellness and adventure programme include Shaolin Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Wushu, cycling and much more.
Wonderfruit is for wonderers of all ages and at Camp Wonder there are activities and performances to cater for all the family. From kids bowling, free running, storytelling, arts & crafts, Radiant Child Kundalini Yoga, a photography walk, live painting & nanny services.
Wonderfruit takes place from 15 to 18 December in The Fields at Siam Country Club, Pattaya, just 150 kilometers (two hours’ drive) southeast of Bangkok. Ticket pricing begins at £223 for an adult 4-day pass, which includes general camping. Luxurious boutique and RV camping is available for booking and hotel packages are also available with partner properties in Pattaya.
