Today (18th Nov), singer-songwriter Tim Gallagher releases his new single Growing Pains, available now across all DSPs via Relentless Records. 

Tim says of Growing Pains: “Growing pains is the song I’ve always wanted, and perhaps needed to write. It’s about depression, from the perspective of having recovered. Seen through the lens of a healthy mind, I’m reflecting on all the lessons I learned and all the growth I was able to achieve through adversity. I’m grateful I captured this when I was in a positive headspace, as it will always serve as a reminder to me, and hopefully others, to hang on in there.”

Born in 1993, Tim was raised in Crewe, but it’s Manchester that has influenced him the most, immersing himself in the culture from an early age and moving there to work for a homeless charity. He started busking in the city centre, playing old classic soul tunes that he was raised on alongside covers of current hits. Honing his craft in public, Tim progressed to regular open mic nights, notably at The Whiskey Jar in the Northern Quarter, where he found his spiritual home, on stage, in front of an adoring audience.

An only child, Tim’s youth was normal, active and happy, filled with football and music. However, everything changed when he was diagnosed with a chronic illness aged 18. Affected both physically and mentally, Tim tried to carry on but eventually stopped performing and going out completely; he became reclusive and quickly fell into a deep depression which lasted 3 years. Alongside the support of his family, therapy sessions and medication, Tim found it was his own music, his written material and hand crafted songs that were the catalyst for his recovery. He started self-releasing songs; 27 in 12 months! It is this journey through depression and the personal growth that Tim has felt as a result that he sings about on Growing Pains.

However, it was when the pandemic struck and everything stopped that Tim turned to social media, specifically TikTok and Instagram. He soon realised the untapped potential of playing to people from his home. Performing regular sessions on the platforms he won round a brand new army of fans, but this time they stretched across the Atlantic and to Europe. Tim quickly amassed an impressive following (TikTok +590k, Instagram +250k) that include the likes of Shawn Mendes, Anthony Hamilton, Sharon Stone, Channing Tatum, Teddy Swims and Country star Brett Young. It was this activity that also caught the eye of Relentless Records (Headie One, Bad Boy Chiller Crew, Tom Walker) who signed him at the start of 2022. 

Since then, he has had a run of singles including Altar, released in July which became the soundtrack to millions of people’s summers after a high profile sync on ITV’s Love Island.  Growing Pains is the next step in Tim’s journey and forms part of a new EP, out at the start of 2023, details of which to follow. 

Tim Gallagher heads out on a UK tour soon, calling at Dublin, Birmingham, London, Bristol and his hometown of Manchester, all of which have sold out.
